You can find out who your current supplier is from either your energy bill or the contract that you signed with your energy supplier.

Some suppliers include the Contract End Date on your energy bill, if not you can check the contract that you signed with your energy supplier. If neither of these are at hand, then you will need to contact your energy supplier and request this information.

Your Annual Usage — also known as Annual Consumption (AQ) or Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) — will be required for a potential new supplier to calculate the unit rate(s) and standing charge.

You can calculate this from your bills if you have the last 12 months to hand, failing that you will need to contact your energy supplier for this information.

Please do not be tempted to guess — your annual usage is key to the supplier offering you the correct price and volume charge, if any.

Every meter has its unique number, which is logged on national industry databases — you will find it on your energy bill.

For electricity it is known as the MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number), read left to right on the top line followed by left to right on the bottom line:

For gas it is known as MPR / MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number), shown as a straight run of digits, e.g. 48977898665.

The address of where the meter is sited — e.g. the supply address.

It is important that this information matches the meter number held on industry databases and can be verified by suppliers. If this is not accurate and cannot be verified, suppliers will be unable to quote for your new supply.
